"There's a real war for talent within family offices," said William Sinclair, U.S. head of J.P. Morgan Private Bank's Family Office Practice. According to the report, which surveyed 190 family offices with average assets of $1.4 billion, family offices that manage less than $500 million spend an average of $1.5 million a year for operating costs. Family offices between $500 million and $1 billion spend an average of $2.7 million, and those above $1 billion average $6.1 million. The biggest cost is staffing, which has become more expensive as family offices have tripled in number over the past five years. "If you look back 15 years ago, family offices were where people went to retire and have work-life balance," he said.

The family offices covered by the survey had 26% of their assets invested in publicly traded stocks. The study surveyed 190 single family offices around the world, with an average of $1.4 billion in assets. In the U.S., only 49% of family offices have a long-term target return for their portfolio. Still, family offices use various benchmarks for their investment portfolios, with more than three-quarters of those surveyed using some benchmark to evaluate performance. Increasingly, family offices are looking to outsource more functions to reduce costs, especially among smaller family offices of under $500 million.

Read previewHarvard researcher Dr. David Sinclair has found himself at the center of controversy within the longevity community. He's also earned his share of critics who say his research isn't always backed up by sufficient evidence. Animal Biosciences reissued a press release walking back the "reverse aging" claim. But scientists in the field say the issue is even more fundamental: There's no way to reverse aging, much less measure it. That means debates about the semantics of aging will only become more relevant to our daily lives.

The U.S. economy is flashing a sign that's favorable for dividend stocks, according to Bank of America. In this environment, investors want to own dividend stocks with above-market yields, she said. For those characteristics, she looks to quintile two of the Russell 1000 by trailing dividend yield. Her screen guards against owning distressed companies that might move into the first quintile, the highest dividend yield group, if prices fall ahead of potential dividend cuts. John Sinclair, a counterculture activist whose nearly 10-year prison sentence for sharing joints with an undercover police officer was cut short after John Lennon and Yoko Ono sang about his plight at a protest rally, died on Tuesday in Detroit. His publicist, Matt Lee, said the cause of his death, in a hospital, was congestive heart failure. As the leader of the White Panther Party in the late 1960s, Mr. Sinclair spoke of assembling a “guitar army” to wage “total assault” on racists, capitalism and the criminalization of marijuana. “We are a whole new people with a whole new vision of the world,” he wrote in his book “Guitar Army” (1972), “a vision which is diametrically opposed to the blind greed and control which have driven our immediate predecessors in Euro-Amerika to try to gobble up the whole planet and turn it into one big supermarket.”He also managed the incendiary Detroit rock band the MC5. Their lyrics — “I’m sick and tired of paying these dues/And I’m finally getting hip to the American ruse” — were a kind of ballad for the cause.

Christine Baranski, who appears as Bunny Caldwell – Cecile’s WASP-y mother – was adorned in Chanel-style suits from St John. If shareholders approve the merger, it would enable Trump Media to go public and Trump to own a stake worth about $4 billion. In the US, a political party’s presidential nominee has never owned a major media platform worth so much. Furthermore, the possibility of this added Truth Social muscle for Trump arrives as right-wing MAGA messaging finds more outlets at the national and grassroots levels. And, while Trump has stuck with Truth Social, X has become a haven for right-wing conspiracies of all kinds. MAGA-friendly, right-wing media is growing at the grassroots level as well.

A few years ago, desperate to avoid being acquired by a hedge fund, staff members of The Baltimore Sun made public pleas for a local entrepreneur to buy their publication. That request was recently realized: A Maryland businessman, David D. Smith, bought the storied newspaper, returning the 186-year-old newspaper to local hands for the first time in nearly 40 years. But Mr. Smith may not be quite what The Sun’s journalists were hoping for. Mr. Smith is the executive chairman of the conservative Sinclair Broadcast Group, one of the country’s largest local television station operators with nearly 200 stations, including Fox45 in Baltimore. Sinclair has been a reliable ally for former President Donald J. Trump; Mr. Smith reportedly told Mr. Trump in 2016, “We are here to deliver your message.” In 2018, the company required its stations to film promos echoing some of Mr. Trump’s attacks on the news media.
